ALTA RITA Edges Away in Allowance Triumph

ALTA RITA proved best in the final stages to win a 5 1/2-furlong Allowance test by 1 1/2 lengths. The 3-year-old filly from the first crop of ALBERTUS MAXIMUS raced about two lengths off the lead until mid-stretch, then ran down the leader inside the eighth pole to get the win as the heavy favorite at Belterra Park. Earlier in the year, ALTA RITA rallied to win a Maiden Special Weight 2 3/4 lengths. Bred by Ponder Hill, Inc. out of Goodbye Beautiful, by Goodbye Doeny, she was purchased for $90,000 at the Keeneland September sale, the second highest priced yearling of the session, by current owner Preston Stables.
