EQUINE VISION VIRTUAL STALLION GUIDE FOR SHADWELL STALLIONS

Three of the Shadwell stallions are showcased in Equine Vision's "Virtual Stallion Guide," a visual accompaniment for breeders to paper research. Among the features the Virtual Stallion Guide offers is to allow users to analyze a stallion's conformation, often from numerous angles as if one was walking around the horse in person, and view past performances.

ALJABR, a G1 winner at 2, 3, and 4, BAHRI, a European Champion and sire of 20% stakes horses from starters, and SWAIN (IRE), a multiple Champion whose first winner as a freshman sire this year was in a listed stakes, are all participants. For more information, please visit:

Aljabr in the News

Multiple G1 winner ALJABR, whose first outstanding foals were born this year, was given some unsolicited flattery in the Thoroughbred Daily News. The following section appeared in the recurring column "From the Desk of...Bill Oppenheim":

"...Another horse I love with similar ratings is ALJABR, a grey son of Storm Cat who stands at Shadwell in Kentucky, now down to a mouthwatering $15,000 fee himself. ALJABR won Group 1 races at two, three, and four in 1998-2000. He was rated 121 pounds by Timeform after going unbeaten in three starts at two, including the (then) G1 Prix de la Salamandre, then had the same ratings as Noverre at three (125) and four (123). I give him a big shot to make a sire, too; like Noverre, like Kaldounevees, like Hernando, like Grand Lodge, like Distant View, he had the form."

SHADWELL SALES HAS 22 AT KEENELAND JANUARY

With a full year of sales consignments now under its belt, Shadwell Farm's Sales Division brings a consignment of 22 horses to Keeneland's January Horses of All Ages Sale. Twenty of the offerings are broodmares, including mares from the major black-type families of Chimes of Freedom and Chris Evert. Most of the mares are in foal to such sires as Elusive Quality and Red Ransom in addition to Shadwell stallions Aljabr, Bahri, Sahm, and Swain. The final two offerings are a racing prospect by Bahri and an early yearling filly by Dayjur.

Shadwell horses will be selling on Monday, January 6, and Wednesday, January 8.

DAYJUR AMONG LEADING JUVENILE SIRES BY PERCENTAGE

Shadwell sire and Champion DAYJUR is ranked among the national leaders of "Juvenile Sires by Percent of Current Year Winners," according to the December 7 issue of the Thoroughbred Times. DAYJUR appears in the top 20, ahead of leading sires such as Storm Cat and Gilded Time. The leader list shows DAYJUR at 53% 2-year-old winners from starters, but the win by Charmander Char on December 7 actually moves his percentage up significantly to 59%. He has 10 juvenile winners to date in 2002.

The sire of 16% stakes horses lifetime, DAYJUR has always enjoyed juvenile success. He is the sire of the 1997 Irish Champion 2-Year-Old Filly, Asfurah, and his 2-year-olds at auction this year have brought up to $350,000. In addition, he is the broodmare sire of 2-year-old Elusive City, winner of this year's Prix Morny-G1.

SWAIN IN THE NEWS

The Blood-Horse's MarketWatch, a publication focusing on the analytical and statistical aspects of the business, had some flattering comments for Champion and first-year sire SWAIN. An excerpt follows:

"There were some high points when 21 yearlings from SWAIN's first crop sold last year, including a $750,000 colt out of Epitome."

SWAIN's second yearling crop (yearlings of 2002) followed suit with the top-priced filly of the exclusive Tattersalls October sale. The daughter of SWAIN brought 300,000 guineas, or nearly $500,000, not to mention this year's 500,000 euro SWAIN at Deauville.

MarketWatch continued:

"End users looking for quality, soundness, and staying power (remember those attributes?) in a racehorse might have found some bargains among the 18 yearlings by SWAIN that sold in 2002. If those qualities come to fruition in his offspring, the commercial market eventually will respond positively."

JAPANESE WINNER MAKES FIVE FOR SWAIN

TRILLION CUT (00 c, o/o Sabeline, by Caerleon) became the fifth juvenile winner of 2002 for freshman sire Swain with this 1 1/2 length victory in a maiden event at Chukyo in Japan. Going 1800 meters on the turf, the 2-year-old colt bested a full field of 16 for the win. Bred in Kentucky by Dell Ridge Farm LLC, Trillion Cut campaigns for U.Carrot Farm.

Swain now has winners in England, Japan, and the U.S. Interestingly, two of Swain's initial winners, including Trillion Cut, are out of Caerleon mares.

CHURCHILL MSW WINNER IS FOURTH FOR SWAIN

VIOLET EYED DIVA (00 f, o/o Kostroma (Ire), by Caerleon) became the fourth juvenile winner for first-crop sire Swain with this game victory in a maiden special weight at Churchill Downs. The 2-year-old filly had tried the main track twice before switching over to the turf in this one mile maiden. She was five or six wide for much of the race and unleashed a furious rally from the back of the pack to get up just in time. Her final margin of victory was a neck.

Bred in Kentucky by Calumet Farm, Violet Eyed Diva campaigns for Andrew Davidovich. The filly's dam was a millionaire whose three G1 wins included the Beverly D. Stakes in 1992.

November 2, 2002

ANOTHER 2YO WINNER FOR FRESHMAN SIRE SWAIN

ALJAZEERA (00 f, o/o Matiya (Ire), by Alzao) became the third winner for her freshman sire with this determined score in a seven furlong maiden race at Newmarket in England. The 2-year-old filly settled kindly behind the leaders in the early stages and unfurled a rally that put her in front a furlong from the finish. The race favorite battled gamely, but Swain's daughter would not be denied and won by a gritty half-length over the field of 17.

Bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm LLC, Aljazeera races in the colors of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum. Her dam was a winner of the Irish 1000 Guineas-G1.

SHADWELL CONSIGNS 48 HORSES TO KEENELAND NOVEMBER

The prestigious Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale will feature 48 horses offered by Shadwell Sales Division. Forty-one of Shadwell's offerings are broodmares with five scheduled to sell on the first day. The first book is always the highlight of the sale and Shadwell's mares are no exception.

The first mare Shadwell will send to the sales ring is Katiba, a stakes-placed winner by Gulch from the family of Breeders' Cup winner Very Subtle. She has already produced two stakes horses, including one by Silver Hawk, the same sire to which she is currently in foal.

Minifah, a Nureyev half-sister to Kentucky Derby winner Winning Colors, will be the second Shadwell mare to sell. She also has produced two stakes horses and is in foal to Coronado's Quest. The Kingmambo mare Al Aood from the same family as Lure is Shadwell's next horse to sell. She is a young mare carrying her first foal and was mated to Silver Hawk.

The final two Shadwell mares to sell on Keeneland's first day are Atuf, a daughter of Danzig who is a three-quarter sister to Australian G1 winner Fraar and is in foal to Shadwell's freshman sire Swain, and Crafty Example. The latter is by Crafty Prospector out of a full sister to French champion Polish Precedent. She herself has already produced English champion Intikhab and is carrying a full sibling to the multiple group winner.

SHADWELL IN THE NEWS

Shadwell "has gained increasing respect the past few years as one of the most professional operations going, and without much fanfare they are assembling what could be a powerful stable of juveniles for 2003. They're very good at supporting breeders who support their own stallions, too, which in turn encourages breeders to support the stallions; get a good one by a Shadwell stallion, and you can count on it getting a serious look by their team. That's good business."

SWAIN SIRES TOP-PRICED FILLY AT TATTERSALLS OPENER

Freshman sire SWAIN sired the top-priced filly of the first select session of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale at Newmarket. His daughter out of the Nijinsky II mare Balistroika brought a final hammer price of 300,000 guineas, or about $470,000. Anthony Stroud Bloodstock purchased the filly from the consignment of Voute Sales, agent.

The Swain filly is a half-sister to the 2-year-old multiple group winner Russian Rhythm. "She is for a foreign client," said Stroud, "and will hopefully be joining her sister with Sir Michael Stoute."

Not only was Swain's 2nd-crop daughter the highest sale filly of the day, but she also was the third-highest priced yearling overall of the session.

SHADWELL-BRED NAYEF WITHDRAWN FROM CHAMPION S.

Incomparable broodmare Height of Fashion's last son, NAYEF, will not be able to defend his title in Newmarket's Champion S.-G1 due to mild illness.

"The early signs are that NAYEF has contracted the same low-grade respiratory infection that has affected so many of our horses this season," said trainer Marcus Tregoning. "Unfortunately, NAYEF will not now run in the Champion Stakes."

Winner of the Champion S.-G1 last year, Shadwell-bred NAYEF most recently won the Juddmonte International-G1 in August at York. According to Tregoning, the previous English highweight is not expected to run again this year but will target the Dubai World Cup-G1 next March.

BAHRI'S TOP SON, SAKHEE, RETIRES TO SHADWELL IN ENGLAND

Shadwell-bred SAKHEE, the brilliant son of BAHRI who was the highest-rated horse in the world in 2001, has been retired. He will enter stud in 2003 at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud near Thetford, England.

"SAHKEE has been a great champion for Godolphin," said Simon Crisford, Godolphin's racing manager. "His stunning victory in the Arc last year and brilliant run in the Breeders' Cup Classic were the highlights for us."

The multiple European highweight retires with eight victories and earnings topping $3 million. His wins include scintillating scores in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-G1 and Juddmonte International-G1. He is probably best known in America for his narrow nose defeat in the 2001 Breeders's Cup Classic-G1 to Tiznow.

Added his regular rider, Frankie Dettori, "When he was on his song, he was unbeatable."

SHADWELL ANNOUNCES 2003 STUD FEES

Shadwell Farm is pleased to announce stud fees for the 2003 season. Three of the stallions have had their fees significantly reduced to reflect the readjustment in economics within the industry.

"Due to the current market conditions, we have adjusted our fees accordingly and we feel our line-up for the 2003 season represents outstanding value," said Rick Nichols, general manager of Shadwell.

Freshman sire SWAIN, seasoned sire BAHRI, and multiple G1 winner ALJABR have all seen reductions in their fees. SWAIN, who is represented by two initial winners and a stakes winner in his first crop of 2-year-olds, will stand for $25,000 next year. BAHRI, whose progeny include Sakhee, the world's highest-ranked horse of 2001, will stand for $20,000. ALJABR, whose first foals are weanlings this fall, will stand for $15,000.

Champion DAYJUR, whose offspring include Irish Champion Asfurah and G1 winner Hayil, will stand for $5,000, the same amount he stood for in 2002. SAHM, the record-setting graded stakes winner whose first foals are yearlings of 2002, also will stand for $5,000, again the same fee he stood for in 2002.

All fees are live foal guaranteed.

SHADWELL MILE-G1 WON BY LANDSEER

Keeneland's Shadwell-sponsored G1 event, the Shadwell Keeneland Turf Mile-G1, was run today and fans were treated to a thrilling rendition of the race. Michael Tabor and Mrs. John Magnier's Landseer captured the event by a neck over Touch of the Blues, who in turn was only a half-length in front of Beat Hollow. It was the winner's first start in the United States. The first three finishers may all head to the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Arlington Park on October 26.

At $600,000, the Shadwell Mile is the richest race of the fall meet at Keeneland. The G1 event is held annually.

FIRST STAKES WINNER FOR SWAIN'S HALF-BROTHER

Three-time Champion, multiple G1 winner, and freshman sire SWAIN was represented by his first stakes winner as a sire when his first winner, Muqbil, broke his maiden in a listed stakes. Now, SWAIN's younger half-brother, WATER POET, is following in his footsteps.

WATER POET, a multiple stakes winner in France at three, is a year younger than SWAIN but also has his first 2-year-old runners this year. Standing at Haras San Isidro in Venezuela, WATER POET already is represented by two stakes horses and three winners. He has a stakes winner in Miss Kairicar, whose three victories include the Clasico Lanzarina-G3, and a stakes-placed winner in Boby Seraf.

Currently the leading freshman sire in Venezuela, WATER POET is by Sadler's Wells (Northern Dancer) while SWAIN is by Nashwan (Blushing Groom). Both sires are out of Love Smitten from the immediate family of Broodmare of the Year Kamar.

FIRST GROUP PLACING FOR SWAIN SON

After an impressive debut winning a listed stakes in his first lifetime start, Swain's 2-year-old colt MUQBIL returned in the Somerville Tattersalls S.-G3 at Newmarket in England. Although he didn't win, he put in a strong performance and was just a half-length off the winner at the wire in the seven furlong event. The 2-year-old colt was prominent throughout the race, experiencing a bit of traffic trouble when the eventual winner drifted into his path. A stewards' inquiry was conducted, but the results remained unchanged.

"He stayed on well in the closing stages," said Racing Post's chart of MUQBIL, "but it seemed that it was more of a case of his inexperience causing the problems to him than the winner. He remains a very interesting prospect and may well do better on a more conventional course."

MUQBIL is the first stakes performer for his freshman sire Swain. The 2-year-old colt was bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm.

September 26, 2002

SECOND WINNER FOR SWAIN BY 3 LENGTHS

Freshman sire SWAIN tallied his second winner when the impressive ALASIL came home by three widening lengths in a maiden event at Pontefract in England. The 2-year-old colt had made two previous starts, overcoming trouble each time to finish second both times prior to this victory. Bred by Shadwell Farm and racing in the colors of Hamdan Al Maktoum, ALASIL won the one mile maiden event "easily," according to the chart.

SWAIN's earlier winner is MUQBIL, who captured the Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises S./Washington Singer S. in his career debut. With a stakes winner, two winners, and an additional seven starters who have placed, SWAIN is off to a strong start his freshman year at stud.

KEENELAND'S SHADWELL MILE IS GRADE 1 IN 2002

Every year, Shadwell sponsors the Keeneland Mile and in 2002, the event officially run as the Shadwell Keeneland Turf Mile will commence for the first time as a G1. Scheduled to be run on Sunday, October 6, the Shadwell Mile is one of the major features of opening weekend of Keeneland's prestigious fall meeting, In addition to its elevated status as a G1 race, the Shadwell Mile also has an elevated purse and is now worth a hefty $600,000. The eight-furlong event contested on the turf course is open to 3-year-olds and up. Previous winners of the G1 Shadwell Mile include Horse of the Year Favorite Trick in 1998, Hap in 2001, and Shadwell's own Dumaani in 1995-96.

Adding to the festivities surrounding Shadwell's race day at Keeneland is competition for the Best Turned Out Award, where grooms of individual horses are rewarded for the presentation of their charges. The event has proved immensely popular in previous years and inspires fierce, but friendly, competition between barns.

DAYJUR'S FIRST G1 WINNER AS A BROODMARE SIRE

Another milestone today for 15-year-old DAYJUR as he was represented by his first Group 1 winner as a broodmare sire. ELUSIVE CITY won the Prix Morny-G1 at Deauville in France to establish himself as one of the top 2-year-olds in Europe and an early favorite for next year's 2000 Guineas. He had previously won the Group 3 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood in July.

Elusive City is out of the unraced DAYJUR mare Star of Paris, a daughter of the stakes-winning mare Liturgism, who also is the dam of Grade 3 winner Millions. Bred by Silver Springs Stud Farm and Mrs. J. Costelloe, Elusive City is now owned by the Thoroughbred Corporation.

HEIGHT OF FASHION'S DOMINANCE CONTINUES

The blood of legendary broodmare HEIGHT OF FASHION (FR) flowed through three stakes winners this week for Shadwell Racing. One of the stakes winners is a son of HEIGHT OF FASHION and two are direct descendants of other sons Nashwan and Unfuwain.

The trifecta began Friday, August 16, with a brilliant performance by MUQBIL in the Listed Washington Singer S. at Newbury. MUQBIL is from the first crop of Nashwan's champion son Swain.

On Tuesday afternoon (August 20) at York, Height of Fashion's last foal, NAYEF, by Gulch, turned the tables on his King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond S.-G1 conqueror Golan by battling him to the wire in the G1 Juddmonte International.

Thirty minutes later, jockey Richard Hills completed the treble by guiding BANDARI to a nail-biting victory in the G2 Great Voltigeur. BANDARI is a son of Alhaarth, the champion 2-year-old son of Unfuwain.

COURAGEOUS WIN BY NAYEF IN JUDDMONTE INTERNATIONAL-G1

Shadwell-bred NAYEF, the final foal from grand broodmare Height of Fashion (Fr), captured the Juddmonte International S.-G1 in dramatic fashion over rival Golan on York's opening day of the Ebor meeting. The duo battled ferociously through the final two furlongs of the 1 ¼ mile and 85 yard G1 event. Neither gave an inch until NAYEF asserted his tenacity and fought to a half-length victory at the wire. The win gave NAYEF a measure of revenge as Golan had registered a head victory when the pair met just 3 ½ weeks ago in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond S.-G1 over 1 ½ miles.

NAYEF is now the winner of three G1 races and captured the Dubai Sheema Classic-G1 on Dubai World Cup day earlier this year. Among his half-siblings are Champion and dual classic winner Nashwan and group winners Unfuwain and Alwasmi.

Trainer Marcus Tregoning said NAYEF would be pointed for either the 1 ¼ mile Champion S.-G1 at Newmarket on October 19 or the Breeders' Cup Turf-G1 at Arlington on October 26.

SWAIN'S FIRST WINNER IS IN LISTED STAKES

Most freshmen sires notch their first winner and then endure a long drought until they add a stakes winner to their credentials, but not SWAIN. In spectacular fashion, the four-time G1 winner tallied both his first winner and his first stakes winner when 2-year-old MUQBIL won the listed Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises S. (formerly the Washington Singer S.) at Newbury in Great Britain.

The first-time starter MUQBIL was always traveling nicely throughout the seven furlong stakes before quickening in the final two furlongs to open a daylight lead. The juvenile's final margin of victory was a very impressive five lengths.

Coral quoted the son of SWAIN at 14-1 for next year's Epsom Derby-G1. "He is beautifully bred and made a most impressive introduction - we think he looks sure to figure in next year's classics," said David Stevens, a spokesman for Coral.

MUQBIL is out of Istiqlal, by Diesis. The Shadwell-bred 2-year-old colt's dam is a half-sister to Shadwell stallion Bahri.

In related news, SWAIN nearly notched his second winner on the same day when ALASIL encountered trouble and had to fight for room in a maiden race at Newmarket. The 2-year-old colt settled for second position when he was unable to catch the frontrunner. SWAIN's previous career starters include ALJAZEERA and SHIRE, who placed in recent maiden events at Kempton and Belmont, respectively.

STRONG WORK FOR SAKHEE

SAKHEE, Bahri's son and the world's top horse of 2001, worked nicely in preparation for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond S.-G1 scheduled for July 27 at Ascot. His work took place at England's Sandown Park over a very soft course. The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-G1 winner went 1 ¼ miles under Frankie Dettori while working in company with three others. SAKHEE finished 10 lengths the better of his closest competition, group winner Atlantis Prince who won a listed stakes just a week previously at Goodwood.

"SAKHEE went well and the whole team is very pleased," said Simon Crisford, racing manager for Godolphin. "This will have put him right for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond S. at Ascot on July 27."

July 5, 2002

SAKHEE POINTING FOR ASCOT'S KING GEORGE

SAKHEE, 2001's highest-rated horse in the world, is scheduled to make his return to racing in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond S.-G1 at Ascot on July 27. The prestigious 1 1/2 mile event would mark SAKHEE's first start since placing in the March 23 Dubai World Cup-G1 behind stablemate Street Cry (Ire). It also would signify a return to turf after three consecutive starts on dirt which included an allowance victory in addition to placings in the Dubai World Cup and Breeders' Cup Classic-G1.

Bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm, Champion SAKHEE's victories include last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-G1 and the Juddmonte International-G1. The son of Shadwell's stallion Bahri has been preparing for his next start on the Newmarket gallops.

SHADWELL-BRED ESLOOB TAKES STAKES AT NEWCASTLE

Shadwell-bred ESLOOB scored a determined half-length victory in the listed EBF Hoppings S. at Newcastle, rebounding from her only career off-the-board effort in the Epsom Oaks-G1. In the Hoppings, ESLOOB donned blinkers for the first time and battled gamely to the wire for a hard-found win at the 10 furlong and 32 yards distance. She was bred in the U.S. at Shadwell's Kentucky nursery.

ESLOOB now sports an impressive record of three wins in five starts, including stakes victories in the Hoppings and Pretty Polly S. at Newmarket. In addition, she placed in the Fillies' Mile-G1 at Ascot as a 2-year-old. The filly's dam is G1 winner Roseate Tern (GB) and is a half-sister to multiple G1 winner Ibn Bey (GB).

SHADWELL-BRED MALHUB WINS GOLDEN JUBILEE

Shadwell-bred MALHUB overcame both a tough field and a wind problem to capture the Golden Jubilee-G1 at Royal Ascot by a comfortable 1 1/2 lengths today. He had previously won the King Charles II S. at Newmarket and, in his last outing only nine days ago, he broke the Yarmouth track record in a conditions event.

"The G1 July Cup [at Newmarket July 11] would be an obvious place to go as he wants six [furlongs] and fast ground--that's got to be his target," said trainer John Gosden. "He could go to Arlington [for the Breeders' Cup Sprint] and personally I think he'll go on the dirt, but we might want to leave that one as it's a long way off."

The Golden Jubilee-G1 was formerly known as the Cork and Orrery S.-G1 and is one of the premier events during the prestigious meet at Royal Ascot.

May 13, 2002

SHADWELL-BRED AMONG EARLY EPSOM OAKS FAVORITES

ESLOOB, bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm, has been quoted by Coral Eurobet as the joint favorite for the June 9 Epsom Oaks-G1 after an impressive victory in the listed R L Davison Pretty Polly S. at Newmarket on May 5 going 1 1/4 miles. The 3-year-old filly's only loss in three career starts resulted in a placing in Ascot's Fillies' Mile-G1. In the Pretty Polly, ESLOOB took control after a mile before battling and prevailing over a tough closer.

"Richard (Hills, the jockey) said the more he asked the more she gave - she is very, very tough," said Marcus Tregoning, trainer of ESLOOB. "She could go straight to the Oaks or run again before, but we'll have to see how she comes out of the race. She's not a stuffy filly in any way and she'll definitely get a mile and a half - I guarantee that!"

HOMEBRED CHAMPION SHADAYID LOST

Shadwell Farm regretfully reports the loss of homebred champion and classic winner SHADAYID, who died from foaling complications on April 27 after giving birth to a filly by Seeking the Gold. The filly is fine and has been placed on a nurse mare.

SHADAYID was England and France's champion 2-year-old filly in 1990, the year she won the Prix Marcel Boussac-G1 as part of an undefeated skein. She was even better as a sophomore, taking the classic One Thousand Guineas-G1 in addition to the Fred Darling S.-G3. Overall, she won or placed in eight group events, including seven G1s.

A half-sister to graded/group winners Dumaani and Fath, SHADAYID has produced three stakes horses from five foals to race, including group winner Bint Shadayid and listed winner Alshadiyah. She also has a 2-year-old Storm Cat colt and a yearling A.P. Indy filly waiting in the wings.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MISTERAH CONNECTIONS

Congratulations to the connections of MISTERAH, bred in Great Britain by Shadwell Estate Company Ltd., for her victory in the Shadwell Stud Nell Gwyn S.-G3. The Shadwell-sponsored Newmarket event is contested by 3-year-old fillies over seven furlongs and is a trial for the 1000 Guineas-G1. It was MISTERAH's third win and second stakes victory in five lifetime starts.

SHADWELL AND NAYEF SHINE IN DUBAI

World Cup Day dawned in Dubai with four horses representing close ties to Shadwell Farm. Shadwell-bred NAYEF shown brightest, romping to a convincing victory in the Dubai Sheema Classic-G1 at 1 1/2 miles on the turf. It was the 4-year-old colt's second consecutive G1 victory and the triumph stretched his win streak to five consecutive group stakes events. NAYEF is a half-brother to Shadwell's Champion and dual-classic winner Nashwan.

The most anticipated race of the day was the $6 million Dubai World Cup-G1 with Champion SAKHEE heavily favored. Stablemate Street Cry took the honors with International Classification highweight SAKHEE, winner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-G1, finishing in the third position in the 1 1/4 mile dirt event. SAKHEE was not only bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm, but also is by Shadwell stallion Bahri.

Shadwell-purchased EKRAAR was a strong fifth in NAYEF's Dubai Sheema Classic-G1 while the final Shadwell runner, homebred MUTAMAYYAZ, finished tenth behind an exceptionally tough American contingent in the six-furlong Dubai Golden Shaheen-G1.

March 22, 2002

SHADWELL RUNNERS IN DUBAI

With World Cup Day in Dubai less than 24 hours away, Shadwell Farm in Kentucky is represented by connections to four runners. In the 1 1/4 mile Dubai World Cup-G1 on dirt, the world's richest race with a purse of $6 million, Shadwell is linked to race favorite SAKHEE. The highest-ranked horse in the world was bred by Shadwell and is by Shadwell's premier sire, Bahri.

The Dubai Sheema Classic-G1 at 1 1/2 miles on turf boasts two horses with Shadwell connections. The first is NAYEF, a G1 winner who, like SAKHEE, was bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm. The second is multiple group stakes winner EKRAAR, who was purchased by Shadwell.

The final race with a Shadwell runner is the Dubai Golden Shaheen-G1, a six-furlong sprint on a straightaway. Shadwell is represented by homebred MUTAMAYYAZ, already a handicap winner in 2002.

March 21, 2002

SAKHEE TO BREAK FROM POST SEVEN

With 10 rivals set to challenge Sakhee's dominance as the top older horse in training in the March 23 Dubai World Cup-G1, post positions were drawn for the $6 million race and Sakhee was assigned post seven. Regular rider Frankie Dettori will be in the irons for the 1 1/4 mile dirt event.

Sakhee, who was bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm and is sired by Shadwell stallion Bahri, blew out an easy five furlongs in preparation for the World Cup, pleasing trainer Saeed bin Suroor. “I was very happy with the work and he has come on well; we couldn’t be happier with him. He’s ready.”

March 17, 2002

DUBAI WORLD CUP FOR SAKHEE APPROACHES

Shadwell-bred and -sired SAKHEE will seek to continue his stranglehold on the title of the world's highest-rated horse in the world's richest race, the Dubai World Cup-G1, now less then a week away on March 23. The son of Bahri has already proven himself the most versatile horse in training at the highest echelon, nailing the runner-up position by a nose in the Breeders' Cup Classic-G1 on the dirt only three weeks after a runaway victory in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-G1 on the grass last fall.

Among the opponents slated to challenge SAKHEE are Japanese champion Agnes Digital, English highweight Nayef (also bred by Shadwell), Argentine champion Sei Mi, last year's World Cup runner-up To the Victory, and stablemate Street Cry, whose last outing resulted in a 8 1/2 length romp in the Maktoum Challenge Round III-G2 over the same Nad al Sheba track. A total of 11 horses are entered in the 1 1/4 mile Dubai World Cup-G1, with only one, Western Pride, hailing from the U.S.

Although wagering is not permitted in Dubai, England's Coral has installed SAKHEE as the early 4-6 favorite.

Stables (Allen Jenkins), agent, she was purchased by the Thoroughbred Corp.

Bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm, Dayjur's $350,000 daughter is out of the Diesis (GB) mare Ra'a, a stakes winner in England. SHADWELL-BRED NAYEF PREPARING FOR WORLD CUP DAY

Dubai Champion S.-G1 winner Nayef, bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm, is currently preparing for Dubai World Cup day at Nad al Sheba on March 23. Nayef has spent the winter in Dubai and will run in either the Dubai World Cup-G1 at 1 1/4 miles on dirt or in the Dubai Sheema Classic-G1 at 1 1/2 miles on turf. Riding a four-race win streak on the grass, Nayef has not yet started on dirt but has been training well over the Nad al Sheba main track. The 4-year-old worked a mile on March 2 in a scintillating 1:34, pulling nine lengths clear of his work mate.

ANOTHER HONOR FOR SAKHEE

Bahri's son Sakhee, already the highweight horse in the world on the 2001 International Classifications, was honored yet again when he was high ranked by Timeform's Racehorses of 2001. Weighted at 136 pounds by Timeform, Sakhee surpassed dual classic winners Point Given and Galileo and Breeders' Cup winner Fantastic Light, all of whom were co-weighted at 134 pounds.

Bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm, Sakhee recently romped in his 2002 debut and has the March 23 Dubai World Cup-G1 next on his agenda.

SAKHEE WINS 2002 DEBUT

International highweight Sakhee won his first race of 2002 by nine impressive lengths on Sunday night, February 24, at Nad al Sheba in Dubai. Settling near the back of the pack early in the 1 1/4 mile conditions race, Sakhee made his move on the final turn and drew clear with authority, stopping the clock in a final time of 2:01 3/5. It was only the second career start on dirt for Sakhee, who was bred by Shadwell Farm and is by Shadwell stallion Bahri. Sakhee's dirt debut netted a gallant runner-up performance in the 2001 Breeders' Cup Classic-G1 after he registered smashing victories in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-G1 and Juddmonte International-G1 on turf courses.

The Dubai World Cup-G1, to be run March 23 at Nad al Sheba on dirt, has been targeted as Sakhee's next start.

SAKHEE READY FOR FIRST 2002 START

Shadwell-bred Sakhee, by Shadwell Farm stallion Bahri, will make his 5-year-old debut on Thursday, February 21, at Nad al Sheba in Dubai. Sakhee's first start of 2002 will be on dirt in a 1 1/4 mile race, just like his final race in 2001 when he narrowly missed victory in the Breeders' Cup Classic-G1 at Belmont Park after a thrilling stretch duel. He had already notched dazzling victories in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-G1 and the Juddmonte International-G1 in 2001.

Sakhee, the highest-rated horse in the world on the 2001 International Classifications, is preparing for a start in the Dubai World Cup-G1, on dirt at 1 1/4 miles, on March 23.

OVERCOMING LACK OF OPPORTUNITY

Sparkman writes, ". . . Bahri had earned his place at Shadwell by displaying racing ability comparable to his sire's during his two seasons of racing in England. . . He is . . . one of Riverman's most correctly made sons, with better legs all around than many sons of [Riverman]. . .From a very modest numerical opportunity, he has proven that he can produce high-class runners over both dirt and turf."

ALJABR’S FIRST FOALS ARRIVE

The first two foals of multiple G1 winner and first-year stallion Aljabr arrived within 48 hours of one another in late January. First to arrive was a bay filly out of Sabaah Elfull (GB), a daughter of Kris (GB) and a half-sister to group stakes winners Danceabout (GB) and Pole Position (GB). The filly was born on January 25 at Wycombe House Stud in Florida.

"She's a very attractive, good quality, precocious filly," said Sean Kelly of Wycombe House Stud.

The second Aljabr foal born was a bay colt out of Eishin Eleuthera (Ire), a daughter of Sadler’s Wells who raced in Japan. The colt was born on January 27 at Kirtlington Stud in England.

"He is a good, strong individual and we are very pleased with him," said Chris Budgett of Kirtlington Stud.

Aljabr will enter his second season at stud in 2002. He is the only son of Storm Cat standing in Kentucky to win G1 races at two, three, and four.

SAKHEE TARGETS 2002 DEBUT

Bahri’s son Sakhee, the 2001 International Classifications highweight, is drawing closer to his 2002 debut. Simon Crisford, Godolphin Racing’s manager, indicated the 5-year-old will begin his racing season in late February at Nad al Sheba in Dubai in either the third round of the Maktoum Challenge or in a conditioned event. Both races are run on dirt at a distance of 2000 meters. Sakhee’s first major goal of the season is the $6 Million Dubai World Cup-G1, scheduled for March 23 at Nad al Sheba.

“Sakhee is doing very well and is just beginning to shape up nicely,” said Crisford.

SAKHEE TOPS 2001 INTERNATIONAL CLASSIFICATIONS AT 133

Sakhee, bred by Shadwell Farm in Kentucky and sired by Shadwell stallion Bahri, has been named the highweighted horse of 2001 to top the International Classifications. He was given a weight, or rating, of 133 to top the list of every horse who competed in the major racing countries in the world in 2001. The highweight ranking makes Sakhee the undisputed champion of Europe and gives him the unofficial title of Horse of the World for 2001. The only horses to be ranked remotely close to Sakhee were Point Given, America's 3-year-old star, at 130, Fantastic Light, Sakhee's stablemate, at 129, and Tiznow, the only horse to finish in front of Sakhee in 2001, at 128.

The International Classifications have been in existence since 1977 and essentially are used to determine European champions. American horses have been included in the rankings since 1995, and Japanese and Australian horses have recently been added as well.

Sakhee, the brilliant Shadwell-bred and sired Prix de l'Arc Triomphe-G1 winner, has been co-topweighted for 2001 by Globeform, who annually weights the top 50 leading older horses. Globeform assigned Sakhee and Tiznow, the pair who finished just a nose apart in the Breeders' Cup Classic-G1, each 130 pounds to top the championship list.

In addition to his spectacular Arc victory by a record six lengths and his near-triumph in the Breeders' Cup, Sakhee also captured the Juddmonte International S.-G1 in sensational style.
