SHADWELL-BRED SAKHEE WINS HERMES
AWARD
Sakhee, the brilliant son of Shadwell stallion
Bahri, was
honored as the 2001 Hermes Horse of the Year in flat racing by the
Paris-Turf, an award dictated by public opinion. Winner of three of
his four starts this year, including a record six-length score in
the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-G1 and a seven-length victory in the
Juddmonte International-G1 in England, Sakhee closes the year as the
top-rated horse in Europe. His reputation was further enhanced when
he took on the top Americans on their home surface of dirt in the
Breeders' Cup Classic-G1 and was just a nose away from victory.
Bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm, Sakhee campaigns in the colors
of Godolphin Racing. He currently is preparing for the world's
richest race, the Dubai World Cup-G1, which will be contested on
March 23 on dirt

SHADWELL MILE UPGRADED TO GRADE 1
The Shadwell-sponsored turf stakes of the fall season at
Keeneland, the Shadwell Keeneland Turf Mile, has been elevated to
grade 1 status by the American Graded Stakes Committee. The upgrade
will be effective for the 2002 edition of the race, which is a major
stepping stone to the Breeders' Cup Mile, also grade 1. Going one
mile on the grass, the Shadwell Keeneland Turf Mile-G1 is for
3-year-olds and up.
In addition to sponsoring the Shadwell Keeneland Turf Mile-G1 at
Keeneland's Fall Meet, Shadwell has started a tradition of
presenting a "Best Turned Out Award" to the groom of what they
consider to be the most meticulously groomed horse in each race of
the support card.
